200 entries - Dogaine Record!!

We have set a fun, challenging course for you tomorrow. Somehow I don't think it will be cleared!

As we have hit record entries we have two small requests from our competitors -

1. If you own your own Sport Ident card (and any spares you might be willing to lend) please can you bring them and let us know at registration.

2. In the interest of reducing waste if you have a used A4 plastic map bag to protect your map please can you bring it up.

Timings - a few people have queried the timings for tomorrow. Here is a rough schedule for tomorrow to help:

9am - 9.45am Registration and Map Handout

10am Pre start briefing for 4 hour teams and any 2 hour teams ready to start.

10am - 12pm Start window for 2 hour teams. You will register your card at the start control and your 2 hours will start from then.

2pm ish Rogaine Finishing (2hr and 4 hr)

3pm Prize-giving

Many thanks - can't wait to see you all tomorrow, woof woof!

Updated Info 3pm, 15/03/24 - Weather Update!

We have been up at Coronet Peak setting out the controls in some chilly conditions the past two days. However, the weather is looking good for tomorrow. It's going to be a cold start, but there is some sun and cloud forecast with light winds.

As a consequence of the colder conditions we have amended the mandatory gear required per person as follows:

1 x thermal top
1 x thermal longs
1 x hat and gloves

In addition to the compulsory gear already required:

1 x rain jacket
1 x cell phone per team

Also, if you have a coat for your furry competitor it could be a good idea to bring it or pop into Vetent Queenstown to get one!

Thanks for all your entries - over 100 people are already heading up the mountain tomorrow. If you still haven't entered please do so here

PRE-ENTRY is required BEFORE 8pm Friday 15th March here

Dogaine2

Our popular Dogaine event is happening again this year in March! A rogaine is a navigation event in which you and a teammate (and maybe your dog!) compete to collect as many checkpoints in your allocated time as possible. You will receive the map before starting and have a short amount of time to plan out your route. Checkpoints are worth different amounts and you have to decide on the best route and which checkpoints you want to get. Most of the travel is off track and up at Coronet Peak you will have some tussock and rocky terrain to descend.

Please note you will NOT be allowed to run on the mountain bike trails as this is a safety hazard.

You have the options of a 2 hour Rogaine including one ride on  the chairlift, or the 4 hour with unlimited chairlift rides. There is also be a special 'take your dog' category (hence the name Dogaine) and you can use the gondola car on the chairlift to transport your furry friend up the mountain with you. From the top you will need to plan your way down to visit as many checkpoints as you can. The checkpoints are worth different amounts, rounded to the decade (ie. 32 worth 30 points, 85 worth 80 points etc.)

You should ideally find a teammate to rogaine with, but if you can convince us of your rogaine and outdoor experience we are okay for you to go solo.

Compulsory gear is now updated to:

1 x thermal top
1 x thermal longs
1 x hat and gloves
1 x rain jacket
1 x cell phone per team

We also recommend taking a polypro top, hat and gloves, compass, plus enough food and water for 2 hour/ 4 hours. If the weather is not looking so flash we may require this gear so come along prepared.

Rules:

Control points are equal to the number of the control truncated to the nearest 10, eg control 53 and 58 are worth 50pts, while 83 is worth 80 pts.

You must be back after 2 or 4 hours, otherwise you will be deducted 20pts per part minute late, eg 30sec late -20pts, 2min 5 sec late -60pts.

Team members must stay together at all times. You may compete solo at the organisers discretion based on experience.

No crossing through out of bounds areas. These are marked clearly on the map with olive green or pink stripe.

Competitors must take compulsory gear.

Competitors shall not discard litter or unduly damage or disturb native flora or fauna.

Strictly No Fires or Smoking.

Safety:

Do Not travel on the mountain bike trails. There are cliffs, steep and rocky terrain, and skifield equipment hazards. You are competing in mountain terrain and the weather can change quickly. Hypothermia is a risk. Competitors must take caution, especially traversing or going down steep slopes and not go anywhere they are not comfortable with.

Our safety phone number during the event is (Emily) 0221599820. Save this on your phone.
