Christmas Rogaine Info Update

Thanks for all the entries coming in! The course is looking great, it really is a beautiful area right above Queenstown. A couple of important things to note for Sunday:
- Parking is at the upper carpark past Country Lane carpark. Drive 200m on up the hill and turn left. There is a walking track back down the road to access Country Lane on the true left. This will be sign posted.
- The course (particularly the further checkpoints) covers some steep terrain, which is grassy and slippery. I would recommend grippy shoes or spikes.
- There is lots of matagouri in some areas, so gaiters or long socks is a good idea.
- Very importantly we will have a prize for most Christmassy Outfit on course!
Ho ho ho! Can't wait to see you all there on Sunday.
Remember you can still enter on our website if you haven't, but please note there is an additional $5 fee for late entries.

We are very excited to announce that on Sunday 14th December we will hold the Christmas Rogaine at Country Lane in Frankton. The event will consist of a 2 hour and 4 hour rogaine option. It will be fun and family friendly with a few Christmassy twists along the way. The 2 hour event in particular will cater for kids, families and beginners to the sport of rogaining.

We are very lucky to have access to this stunning block of private land above the newly developed Country Lane. The event will be based from the Buzzstop cafe and after the event you can relax on the grass and enjoy some of their yummy food or take a wander down the Lane.

What is a rogaine?

A rogaine is an endurance navigation sport where teams of two to five people race to visit as many checkpoints as possible within a set time, usually 6 to 24 hours. Participants use a map and compass to navigate through rugged terrain, with each checkpoint offering points based on its difficulty or distance. The goal is to maximize your score by visiting high-point checkpoints while managing time, energy, and route choices. It combines physical endurance, navigation skills, and strategic planning. Rogaine events are typically held in outdoor, wilderness areas.

Terrain

The terrain is quite hilly and in some places steep and cliffy. These areas will be well marked and we will have a suggested beginners route that will avoid this more technical terrain. Most of the map is grassy, with some scrub and low vegetation in areas. The checkpoints will be located on gullies, spurs and different vegetation features which while provide fun navigational challenge.
