Ever tried ski orienteering before?

It's a pretty unique sport combining the fun challenge of orienteering your way around a course to find controls (checkpoints) whilst skiing on tiny cross country skis!

This event is suitable for all ages and abilities and is very family friendly. We have even had competitors tow their zero year olds around the course in a pulk (that might have been me).  We will have a range of courses to cater for children and beginner adults, so don't worry if you have never been on cross country skis before. It is also perfect timing for families living further afield as it is in the middle weekend of the school holidays. Our event also acts as the (unofficial) New Zealand Ski Orienteering Champs, (seeing as it's the only ski orienteering event in NZ) so it's an opportunity for glory for those seeking that.

And if you get the ski orienteering bug you can follow our event up a few weeks later by entering the Highland Events SnowGaine

Directions:  Snow Farm NZ

Located high on the Pisa Range, the Snow Farm is accessed from the Cardrona Valley Road which connects Wanaka and Queenstown.  The road up to Snow Farm is not sealed but is suitable for most vehicles including 2WD cars.

All vehicles travelling to Snow Farm must carry chains in their car in the event it has or is snowing and the road conditions are such that chains must be fitted. Signage on the road will indicate where you should fit chains. These signs are there for your protection and must be obeyed.

Details:

This year we are hoping to use SI timing equipment. You will be able to hire a chip (for a small hire fee) or bring your own card if you have one.

Costs

Please note, your entry fee includes a map, SFR equipment and you can complete as many courses as you want, however, for official results your time will only count in the first course you do.

This cost does NOT include  trail fees and gear hire from the Snow Farm. To receive a 50% discount from Snowfarm for trail passes (not gear hire or any combo deals) you need to pre-book your trail pass through the Snowfarm website BEFORE our event date. It does work out cheaper to get this discount and hire gear separately than to get a combo deal.

Entry form and prices coming soon.
